Holly Trees School Council
What is a School Council? The School Council are an elected group of children who meet regularly and work together to represent the pupils of Holly Trees.
Who can be a member of the School Council? At the start of each academic year (in September) each class will nominate two children (a boy and a girl) to become their class councillors. Every class from Year One up to Year Six votes for the children that they think will be able to represent their class best at School Council meetings. At the beginning of the summer term (April) the School Council are joined by representatives from the Reception classes.
How long can you be a School Councillor for? School Councillors are elected to represent their classes for one year.
How many School Councillors are there? For the Autumn and Spring terms the School Council will have 20 members from years one to six. During the Summer term this increases to 24 members as representatives from the Reception Classes join the Council.
What have the School Council been up to this year? This years School Council will hold their first meeting next week. See below for just some of the things that the School Council were involved in last year.

Helping in the School Community The School Council all volunteered to help at the Christmas Fayre and in pairs they were responsible for, or helped with, the running of a stall. They organised a range of activities for World Book Day which raised over £250 for new books for the school library.
Problem Solving The School Council began the year by asking every Class Council to have a meeting to discuss anything they felt the School Council could help them with. From that the School Council were able to plan ways to help children and adults with any problems they were having.
Helping in the wider community The children planned the Children In Need activities that all pupils could take part in to raise money for this charity.
