Parental Involvement
Home School Agreement
All the children need a positive and supportive relationship between home and school to enhance their attitude, behaviour and motivation. In order to achieve this, parents need to be informed and involved in discussion about curriculum and assessment.
Parents are encouraged to take an active part in their children's education. The children take a book home every night and we hope that all parents will read regularly with their children, as this makes a measurable difference to their progress. As children develop fluency with reading, they may no longer wish to read as regularly to an adult at home, but they will be encouraged to take their books home and continue to read at home.
Parents are offered appointments with their child's teacher every term. Written reports are issued on each child every year. Any parents who are concerned about their child's progress or welfare can make an appointment to discuss matters with the class teacher or Headteacher at any time.
Teachers are willing to advise parents on how to help their children at home, thus ensuring that parents and teachers work together for the benefit of the children. An appointment to discuss ways to help can be made with the class teacher or Headteacher at a mutually convenient time.
We encourage parents to come into school to provide extra help in the classroom. We always encourage parents to use their skills to the full for the benefit of our school community. There is an active Friends of Holly Trees School group, of which all parents are automatically members. The 'Friends' arrange social functions and fund raising activities for the benefit of the school.
Safety
As a school, we acknowledge that the most dangerous times in any school day are when the majority of pupils are arriving and departing. To protect the children, we ask all adults involved to follow these rules:
notify the school, in writing, if their child is able to travel to and from school on their own any child travelling by bicycle has a helmet, lights, if necessary, has passed their Cycling Proficiency Test and ensures that their bicycle is walked at all times on the school premises the school office and the child's teacher must be informed if 'going home arrangements are different from usual the school car park (Key Stage 2) should only be used by parents with restricted mobility parents should show consideration to our neighbours when parking in the street
It is strongly encouraged by the Governing Body that children should walk to school wherever possible.
