At Holly Trees Primary School, our values — We learn together, we achieve together, we thrive together — drive everything we do. These principles shape our curriculum, ensuring that learning is collaborative, inclusive, and designed to help every pupil reach their full potential.
We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and the National Curriculum, providing a carefully sequenced learning journey from Reception to Year 6. Our approach develops essential knowledge and skills, while fostering the ability to retain and apply learning across subjects and in real-life contexts.
In the EYFS, children engage in structured and play-based activities across all seven areas of learning, including Communication and Language, Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development, Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World, and Expressive Arts and Design. Teaching in the EYFS challenges children to become independent, motivated learners who are curious about the world around them.
Within our happy and secure environment, children experience consistent teaching, engaging learning experiences, and a child-centred approach that ensures the steady development of skills across all areas. They are encouraged to explore, take risks, and form positive relationships with their peers in a setting that celebrates the uniqueness of every child.
Building on these strong foundations, our National Curriculum provision in Key Stages 1 and 2 is engaging and varied. Carefully designed lessons combine enquiry, exploration, and reflection to encourage pupils to think deeply and make meaningful connections. They help children remember and build on prior learning, making knowledge stick and skills transferable.
A broad and balanced curriculum extends beyond the classroom. We tailor and adapt our provision to meet the needs of our community, and in doing so, provide a wealth of experiences throughout their journey with us, from educational, residential trips and forest school to themed days and visiting speakers.
We equip our children with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to flourish – not just in school, but as lifelong learners ready to make a positive contribution to the world around them.
